My Name is Ivan Naudé and I am a professional photographer. Ever since finishing a Graphic Design course at Wits College, I have had a very interesting and exciting career. I started as a photographer at the SAR (South African Railways). This offered a lot of opportunity to travel both locally and abroad to take photos for SAR brochures and travel magazines.
Another project was to complete an audiovisual slide show for the Rand Easter Show. The slide show was unique as it had been set up in an auditorium with a total of six screens and 18 projectors. The six screens were set up in a circle surrounding a standing audience. The show lasted about 15 minutes and was repeated throughout the day. It used about 1500 different slides. Most of these photos had been taken by me. In Cape Town & Johannesburg we managed to get beautiful all round shots from helicopters with six cameras tied to one another.
During National service in the Airforce, having already made a name in photography, I was employed in the Airforce magazine "Adastra." This was a very exciting part of my career. Spent time with Airforce pilots on rescue missions and once crossed enemy lines into war zones. Also had a blast with the "Silver hawks" (Impala Jet Fighter planes) going through their paces in the air as the most spectacular acrobatic air display in South Africa.
To date most of my career was spent with "National Press" which is the publishing company for South Africa's most favourite magazines like "Huisgenoot" and "YOU" and others. As part of a group of three photographers we had to do all of the photos for the related magazines. A lot of the work was factual story photography although personal preference was always fashion photography. During this time I had done photo shoots with most of the Miss South Africa Finalists. Due to the high demand I recently decided to leave "National Press" to specialise in fashion photography. Having been in the Photo business for such a long time gives me an edge as I stay in touch with all the latest developments in photography and technology.
My Favourite Sites on the Internet
I live in Houghton in a house. Part of the house is converted into a photographic studio. I have a Darkroom at home for developing and printing. In the competitive market of today it is a lot better to take the best shot the first time round and to then have a photolab do the work for you.
